High temperature vacuum furnaces, Thermal Technology Inc. (Click to return to home page)

Company Profile

Thermal Technology is privately owned by a small group of investors. The original company, Astro Industries, was formed in 1967 in Santa Barbara, California. Astro grew to be well known for their popular laboratory furnaces and their innovative solutions for the challenges of high temperature furnace design. In 1984 Astro acquired Richard D. Brew and Co., Inc. of Concord, New Hampshire. Founded in 1946, this New Hampshire company was a pioneer in the development of high temperature vacuum furnaces and by 1984 was an established leader in the industry. A new name, Thermal Technology, was chosen to reflect the interest of the company. Thermal Technology GmbH, Bayreuth, Germany was formed in 1987 to provide direct sales and service for Europe. By 1988 the Astro Division moved from Santa Barbara to Santa Rosa, California where it is situated today.

Our customers live in the same competitive world we live in, and they have processes that require consistent repeatability. To meet customer requirements we must provide furnace systems that meet all specifications, are reliable, easy to use and cost effective to operate. In general we are required to achieve complete thermal, chemical and physical control within the furnace environment. The control system needs to meet all design goals to control the furnace cycle profile according to specifications and operate in a user-friendly way. This means that correctly controlled ramp up, soak times, ramp down and temperature uniformity levels are met; correct degree of cleanliness and vacuum level must be met; proper management of inert and/or active gases is essential; and application of correct forces and pressures must be met. To achieve these goals we base our approach on existing proven technology and use it as a solid foundation for the development of new technology.

Presently there are more than four thousand Thermal Technology furnaces found in a wide variety of applications throughout many industries and research organizations around the world.
