Attention: Users of
Argon, Helium and Nitrogen
The Thermal Technology Gas Purification System and Oxygen Monitor (Model IGP-1B) can
reduce the oxygen content of argon, helium or nitrogen to 1 X 10-6 PPM and will purify up
to 320,000 ft3 of gas (based on 10 PPM initial oxygen impurity) between cartridge changes.
The advantage of the IGP-1B becomes clear when you compare this level of oxygen content to
a typical argon specification of <6 PPM oxygen. The Thermal Technology unit offers economical
operation and depending upon your annual gas usage may offer a payback. In addition to the
potential cost savings, you will have a cleaner processing atmosphere when you use the gas
purification system.
If you are currently using argon, helium or nitrogen as a process gas,
back-filling your furnace after a high vacuum evacuation (diffusion, turbo or cryo pumped
systems), or cooling your hot work with one of these gases, you could be reintroducing
oxygen into your process. Why go to the trouble of pumping the oxygen out of the system,
or reducing it by some other means, if you are only going to put it back in? Some
processes may not be sensitive to these levels of oxygen, but even if your process isn't
sensitive, the life of heating elements and other hot zone components may be affected.
You can pay a premium for Ultra High Purity (UHP) gases or purify the
gas and monitor the oxygen content before it is introduced into your process with a
Thermal Technology Gas Purification System and Oxygen Monitor. This system allows you to
monitor the oxygen level in your gas source or the gas after it has been purified. Other
ports are provided to allow you to monitor oxygen content in your process vessel or a
reference source. These features can help you determine if you have additional sources of
oxygen such as small leaks in gas plumbing.
